The Cascade was built in 1971 as a monumental staircase connecting central Yerevan to the Kentron district above. It was designed by architect Jim Torossian — 572 steps, escalators inside, fountains and sculpture gardens at each level. It was left unfinished when the Soviet Union collapsed. The open-air sculpture park that fills it today was funded privately. What the state left incomplete, the city finished on its own terms.The architecture is abstracted into line. Arched tiers stack upward — each level built on the rhythm of the one below, radiating fans and circular ornaments rendered as an art deco technical drawing. The coordinates 40.192° N, 44.515° E and the year 1971 anchor the lower field. "Cascade" runs at the top in gold. White line on black, gold accent: a blueprint that knows what it is.
