Product Description
Rendered in a hand-brushed sumi-e ink wash, this design pairs a quiet portrait of Hovhannes Tumanyan — Armenia's best-loved poet, storyteller, and "All-Armenian" bard — with the silhouette of a samurai raising his blade beneath a bleeding red sun and a blooming cherry tree. It's not a random pairing: Tumanyan was known to keep a carved samurai statue among his personal belongings, a small, easy-to-miss detail that pointed to a real fascination with the discipline and artistry of Japanese culture. Footnote № 001 turns that overlooked fact into the centerpiece of the design, right down to the brushed Japanese calligraphy and red seal stamp framing the piece.
This is the first release in our Footnote series, which digs into the small, human details of Armenian cultural history that rarely make it into the textbooks. It's a soft, everyday tee for readers, history nerds, and anyone who likes their heritage wear with a story attached.
