Product Description
Vazgen Sargsyan survived the war. He was killed in parliament. On October 27, 1999, a gunman entered the Armenian National Assembly chamber and opened fire during session. Sargsyan, serving as Prime Minister, died in the building where laws are made. He had spent the early 1990s building an army from almost nothing — turning volunteers and conscripts into a force that held Nagorno-Karabakh against longer odds. He won that war. He did not survive the peace.
Sargsyan's face fills the left side of the composition — rendered in fragmented blocks, the image built from pieces rather than rendered whole. "SPARAPET" runs vertically down the center: the title used for Armenia's supreme military commander across centuries. A red vertical line divides the portrait from his name in Armenian script and the dates: 1959–1999. The design does not complete him. It holds the fragments in place.
